We stopped by for their mountain decor and was amazed by the mini wooden hut. We picked their signature cucumber and beef slice -an odd pairing that was decent. The beef tripe with duck blood felt a bit lacking, but was prepared well. The pork and pepper was done well and went nicely with rice. The chicken in peppers were on the small side - that disappeared fairly quickly The konjac in the frog soup was nice and so was the fish soup.

The food quality was really good, but the service on the second floor definitely needs improvement. The meal started off great with the Swing Pork Belly and Pepper Beef Tongu, both were completely delicious and the highlights of our dinner. We also ordered the La-Zi Chicken and Ma-Po Tofu. Both were good, though in hindsight, the red chili sauce felt a bit repetitive across all the savory dishes we selected (which might partially be on us for our ordering choices!). For dessert, we had the Sweet Drunken Jelly and Potato Mochi, which were very enjoyable once they made it to the table. As for the service, the host at reception was incredibly kind, welcoming, and fast. However, once we were seated upstairs on the second floor, the level of service dropped. We also noticed that we were the only table served water in plastic containers, which felt out of place for the restaurant and gave it a cheap feel. On top of that, after finishing our main courses, our desserts took an excessively long time to arrive. It was only after we flagged down a server to ask about them that they realized the desserts hadn't even been started yet and had clearly been forgotten.

I have added Mountain House to my recent faves list! The food was wonderful! It has a beautiful rustic and earthy ambiance. Every table is served a complimentary pickled vegetable very similar to kimchi which has a delicious kick!! I couldn’t stop munching! You have to try it! We ordered the Mapo tofu, and it was unlike any version I have had so far—rich, flavorful, and absolutely delectable. The heat level was perfect. Their fried rice was comforting and hearty. The standout for me was the Sichuan cabbage & fish. It packed a serious punch with its fiery spice while still having a very subtle flavor profile. It delivered the bold intensity of Sichuan heat while being absolutely delicious! The service was attentive and pleasant throughout the meal. I will definitely come back, especially for that fish!!❤️

Mountain House in New York is a great place for authentic Chinese food with bold flavors and generous portions. The dishes are flavorful, fresh, and well prepared, and the atmosphere feels lively and welcoming. The service was friendly, and the food came out nicely. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you’re looking for a satisfying meal in New York.

Mountain House absolutely exceeded my expectations. The food was unbelievably delicious and this is now easily one of my favorite Sichuan restaurants in the city. Every single dish we ordered was perfection and honestly, I could eat everything on the menu because not one thing was bad! On top of the amazing food, the service was incredible. The staff constantly checked in on us and made sure we were having a great experience from start to finish. You can really tell they care about both the food and the customer experience. Highly recommend booking a spot here and trying it for yourself. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to!
